COVID-19, the Carona Virus, the Bud Light Virus, Kung Flu,... the names go on and on. This is mostly considered a joke, but when you think about how the United States is handling this, it is more than a joke. Schools, churches, sports, stores, attractions, and almost everything except for food stores and medical clinics/ hospitals are all closing. The government has limited us to about 10 people per room for a gathering. We are told to wash our hands (which we really should have been doing the whole time, right?). But, how should we respond? Do we obey authority? Do we freak out? Do we stay at home?
To start, China did not start this- we humans did. We would not have to deal with sickness and death of any form if Adam and Eve had not sinned. But we all know that we would have done the same if we were there. None of us are perfect. Our world is not perfect. This "epidemic" is just another example to prove this.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10 is a passage that was pointed out to me. Sometimes God sends pain no matter how faithfully you serve Him. This is not a punishment. God allowed the pain to come to Paul, and consequently Job.
We can always turn to God- Jesus is Enough.
Psalm 13. It is a short chapter, that starts with the Psalmist being depressed. He is seeing evil in the world. "How long" means "This is overdue. This seems too long. How much longer?" Then, he turns. He changed from Phase 1, he tells God how he feels, to Phase Two, he tells God what he wants. Tell God what you really think, not what you think He wants to hear. He realizes he seems abandoned, but he knows that God has not really abandoned him. The Psalms NEVER end with a person who is depressed. We are free to ask for anything, but we are not free to demand anything. A demand says "You owe me this", whereas asking this says "If I had it my way, I would do it this way. But I know that I do not control. Can you please do it this way?" Bossing God around is not the job description of a human being and for sure not one of a Christian! The turning verse is verse 5, with the keyword "But". God is always faithful. Even though we do not deserve it, God is still faithful to us. We do not deserve anything but hell, so anything other than that is a gift!
Nothing about the problem has changed between verses 1 and 6, what changed was his attitude! He stopped looking at his problem and started looking to the Lord.
We don't know how bad this virus and the government's control go, but no matter what God is still God and He is still in control. Right now, not knowing what is the big picture, we can't worry.
"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." Matthew 6:34
