My Thoughts

I was thinking to myself last night and so many thoughts started building up in my mind and I want to share them with you. The condition of the USA right now has really been on my mind for the past few weeks. Even though I have been all over the world and seen so many different places and cultures, I never knew that racism still existed for the Blacks here. (I read an article that explained that most Blacks want to be called that, so if that bothers you I am sorry.) People are making rash comments in my opinion at the same time as they may be exactly what this world- and I- needed to here. One of which is "If you are not racist you are anti-racist." Pretty much, you need to choose a side. By doing nothing you are saying what side you are on. While I have not participated in riots or rallies, I have not signed anything, and I have not donated money or time because I'm poor in both of those areas, it hurts my heart to hear that this is a real problem that many Blacks have to deal with on a day-to-day basis.
Yet, I feel like the whole story is not brought to the light. To summarize my article from a few weeks ago, I think that many other races and ethnicities are being mistreated as well but the media chooses what they want to focus on. Second, I think that the police are not all to blame, and we Christians still need to love those who did mess up.
Considering we are all cleared up here, I will mention what my thoughts last night focused on. People from all kinds of walks of life are working together to give one specific race more freedom. Of course, many of these probably want to give all races the same freedom (I hope) so are not focused only on Blacks, and I am sure there is a few who are joining in just so they are not looked down on. But, is this biblical? Hold up, I know that giving everyone rights is biblical. I know that we all should be treated the same. But, is rioting or even rallying the right way to handle this. We need to listen to those in authority, and I personally feel like making a comment like "No justice, no peace" is very much the opposite of what the Bible commands us to do- turn the other cheek! Again, I know that many would say something like "that does not count in the situation right now" or "that is only for small matters" but it is something to think about.
What really struck me last night was this: If these many people react this way for #BLM, what would or should the reaction be if/when us Christians are persecuted here in the USA. People in other countries are being persecuted and have to work undercover to spread the gospel. The Good News means so much more than anything else in this world, and I sure hope that all Black Christians understand that they should be identified more as Christian Blacks- Christianity is what defines them the most. If our right of religion ever got taken away, would we have protests to speak up for the rights that we used to have, or would we turn the other cheek? If we chose to have peaceful protests, then would more or fewer people join than what is going on right now. Most Christians are protesting, but how many protestors would stop protesting if religion was the right being taken away? Would there be a gain of anyone? Just something to think about. Thank you for your time.

Extremes

My friend and I were talking towards the beginning of May, and we both came to the same conclusion- it seems that in almost all circumstances, Satan works in the extremes. Let me elaborate on some specific examples. Eight extremes, so four topics, have been brought to my attention on this matter. Yet, I know that there are probably unlimited more examples.   Politics:  Christians even seem to think that if you are not one party, or you are another party from them, you can't be saved. For example, it seems that most Christians think that the Republican party is the correct party. Some even claim "If Jesus was here [in the flesh] on earth, he would be a Republican." or "Democrats [because right now these are the two extremes in politics in America] cannot be saved because everything that the Democrats stand for goes against the Bible!" The biggest problem with those statements is that they are putting politics to the extremes. There is nothing perfect about the De...

In My Weakness

I am a missionary teacher. I have been for about a year now. I am moving to a new school this year where I will be working with new students that I will need to get to know. New school policies that might not match what I have gotten used to. New staff, bosses, and co-workers that will have new personalities compared to who I have worked with in the past. There will be many more stories that life lesson to share in the future, I am sure. But, today I wanted to focus in on something that God has been teaching me. He has been reminding me that in my weakness, He is strong.  As a missionary teacher, I am reaching out to other churches and individuals to see if they could support me financially (as my position is not paid) and if they could pray for me. This has led to amazing opportunities of encouragement for both parties as we are able to share together in the life that God has given us to use for His glory. It also has allowed me to get more comfortable talking to a group of adults...

How to Disagree Well

Recently, I attended a seminar that talked about how to disagree well. This does not mean how to make your case. This does not mean how to allow people to step all over you either, though. This seminar helped paint the clear picture that how you chose to respond to the speaker and your presuppositions coming into the 'argument' both play a big part in how you will choose to 'argue' with the 'opponent'. Here is what I got from it:  It's important to understand that our culture and family of origin affect why we have our beliefs, instead of just the Bible.  -Do you want to be right, or do you want to influence and be influenced? Do you want to be right or be happy?  -Can you see the bigger picture? There is always a greater narrative. If you can see that, you can learn to disagree well.  -Do you value the person with whom you are interacting with? "To live well with others before God." -Vanhooser. We need to live well with people and get along as muc...
