I'm Possessed and I Love It!

I am possessed and I love it!

 Here is my story:

I was once a regular human like anyone else here on earth. I had good days, I had bad days. I felt pain and I experienced what I thought was happiness. I had friends and family. I went to school and ate and played. I went to school and did the best I could on my assignments. But one day, things really changed.

This point of my life is a little fuzzy and there are specific details to this point of my life that I do not clearly remember. But, around the ages of 5 to 10 I became possessed. I mean, technically I had been possessed the whole time but I did not accept that I was possessed until that point.

From then on in my life, it looks way different than everyone else's. I still do many human things. I still sleep, eat, work, go to school. I still have family and friends that I can talk to. I still have good days and bad days. But now, I know what real joy feels like. My life feels more complete as I live as one who is possessed.

The Real Meaning

For all those who have not figured it out yet, this 'possession' that I am talking about is my relationship with Christ. While there is so much more than a possession of me (and, in fact, I have a personal relationship with my Creator and Maker), I am His. He created my life and He has the power to take it away. I am His possession, so therefore I am possessed.

Everyone tends to use the term "possessed" in a negative light, and there is a good ground for that. It would not be wise for all Christians to just go around on a regular basis and tell people that they are possessed. Yet, it is important to realize that the word can have total different meanings than the cultural stereotype we throw on the word. One dictionary, in fact, used the term "evil spirit" in the definition. Yet, this is not always the case with something that is possessed. Yet another definition explained that even ideas can be possessed by the owner and creator of the thought or idea. This is what the word really means, without any cultural condensation tagging along.

It is also important for believers to live more like they are possessed. Again, this sounds really odd with the cultural background that the world throws at it. Yet, when put into perspective, our lives here on earth should be lived for Christ's glory. We are to live with full intent every day to Give God Glory through our attitude, words, and actions in every area of life. We are to live as if we are possessed because we are.

Who possesses me?

What a blessing is this possession, though? I mean, of all beings to have my soul, I am so thankful it is God's. The Bible clearly shows us so many attributes of God that help me know that He is the best carrier of my soul. He is a loving and forgiving God, which is what I need when I mess up day in and day out. Yet, He is a perfect God who does have Wrath and cannot let any sin into heaven. I need this when I mess up, too, to help me get back on the right track instead of continuing to wander. Thank goodness that if anyone was to possess me, it is God!

Extremes

My friend and I were talking towards the beginning of May, and we both came to the same conclusion- it seems that in almost all circumstances, Satan works in the extremes. Let me elaborate on some specific examples. Eight extremes, so four topics, have been brought to my attention on this matter. Yet, I know that there are probably unlimited more examples.   Politics:  Christians even seem to think that if you are not one party, or you are another party from them, you can't be saved. For example, it seems that most Christians think that the Republican party is the correct party. Some even claim "If Jesus was here [in the flesh] on earth, he would be a Republican." or "Democrats [because right now these are the two extremes in politics in America] cannot be saved because everything that the Democrats stand for goes against the Bible!" The biggest problem with those statements is that they are putting politics to the extremes. There is nothing perfect about the De...

In My Weakness

I am a missionary teacher. I have been for about a year now. I am moving to a new school this year where I will be working with new students that I will need to get to know. New school policies that might not match what I have gotten used to. New staff, bosses, and co-workers that will have new personalities compared to who I have worked with in the past. There will be many more stories that life lesson to share in the future, I am sure. But, today I wanted to focus in on something that God has been teaching me. He has been reminding me that in my weakness, He is strong.  As a missionary teacher, I am reaching out to other churches and individuals to see if they could support me financially (as my position is not paid) and if they could pray for me. This has led to amazing opportunities of encouragement for both parties as we are able to share together in the life that God has given us to use for His glory. It also has allowed me to get more comfortable talking to a group of adults...

How to Disagree Well

Recently, I attended a seminar that talked about how to disagree well. This does not mean how to make your case. This does not mean how to allow people to step all over you either, though. This seminar helped paint the clear picture that how you chose to respond to the speaker and your presuppositions coming into the 'argument' both play a big part in how you will choose to 'argue' with the 'opponent'. Here is what I got from it:  It's important to understand that our culture and family of origin affect why we have our beliefs, instead of just the Bible.  -Do you want to be right, or do you want to influence and be influenced? Do you want to be right or be happy?  -Can you see the bigger picture? There is always a greater narrative. If you can see that, you can learn to disagree well.  -Do you value the person with whom you are interacting with? "To live well with others before God." -Vanhooser. We need to live well with people and get along as muc...
