"What is the meaning of life?" is a common question that most people have heard by the time they are adults, if not long before. It was one of the frequent questions a deep thinker would go to. There are so many different answers that can all stem from the same root. So many different philosophies or worldviews give different answers. Even religions have come up with simple or extravagant answers to this question.
Yet, it is often not as simple as it seems. There are much more questions and inquiries lying beneath the surface. The answer to this question will bring many more questions to the surface. So, what is the correct answer? What does that mean about the other questions that might form from this debate?
I believe that the first step towards understanding your individual meaning of life is to evaluate your worldview to understand where you get your ideas and how this impacts the way you live your life. For example, if all of the information you gained was from a close friend, you would likely focus on modeling your life to be just like this close friend. This is a common reaction from any human source. To take it a step forward, if a celebrity was to create a book about the meaning of life or any other topic, and your worldview was formed or shaped from it, the likelihood of you focusing more energy on becoming just like them is extreme.
Yet, that is not where I get my source from. Instead, I turn to the Bible, the only Divine source. It only makes sense to go to the Creator of the Universe and the Creator of me to understand what my purpose is, or what the purpose of the universe is. This makes sense because the creator always has a plan for the purpose of the creation as they are building it or after it is finished. They are able to respect the time and energy that went into the creation and they often have a specific plan for the creation.
Similarly, God has a plan for you and me. He did not create us for no reason, nor did He create us just to destroy us. He created us with a specific purpose that only you could fulfill. Well, we make choices in day-to-day circumstances, and if you don't choose to take the opportunity that God gave you, He will give it to someone else. But that is a topic for another day. When God created you before you were born, he had a plan for your life. Whether he knew that you would be the one to show a friend the love of Christ, or if it was the support role he had for you to help keep other overseas missionaries there, God knew what it was and he deemed it as important and perfect for you.
Some children say they do not know what they want to be when they grow up. That is okay. Some adults do not know what they want to be. Some people go through college and change their interests right after their degree, some figure out a new passion halfway and switch majors. Others just drop out of college together. Still others found that college was not the right fit for them, so they did not even go to college. But the best part of it all is that it is okay. God can still use us even when we do not know what we are doing. It is amazing that it works that way, but it is how God had it all planned out.
All of this to say, I don't know what the meaning of life is for you specifically, but I know FOR SURE that there is meaning for your life. I know that God created you for a purpose.
