It should be so obvious by this point that evangelism is important. For some reason, my head was just not connecting it. Or maybe my head had it but my heart was running slow.
Yet this week I was reminded again and again just how important evangelism is. It is literally part of the Great Commission. We, as believers, are called to evangelize. Daily, if we can. But, we always seem to have something holding us back. Some are literally just excuses created to prevent us from stepping out of our comfort zone, but others are simply because we don't understand the process of evangelism as well as we could or we should.
Evangelism does not have to be just talking to a random stranger. Evangelism does not have to be just handing out a gospel tract and walking away like a "hit and run" spiritually. It does not have to be scary. Because the best news is that God is with us. When we are honoring His Word and stepping out in faith as He called us to, He will be with us. When we are having a conversation, we don't have to worry about what we say. Not because we will be experts. In fact, there will be quite a few times where each one of us will mess up. But, we can know that when He really wants to communicate something to the person we are speaking with, He will speak through us. He can give us the words to say. He can open the eyes and the heart of the unbeliever we are talking to.
And, we don't have to be afraid of rejection. If the person we were talking to wants nothing to do with us then so be it. God is still at work in their lives whether we can see it or not. Maybe God wanted us to be the planter for the specific person, while other times he wants us to water the seed, and still other times God allows us to see the harvest. But if not, it does not mean that we failed.
